First birthdays are such a fun milestone, and at Eugenia Photography we always celebrate accordingly! A first birthday session is $150 with a CD (average 25 edited photos) and print release. The celebrating lasts about 45 minutes and includes three outfit changes. You can also bring a cake for smashing if you’d like! Cake always comes last so plan to come ready in your first outfit!

Here are some tips for a successful cake smash!

1. Don’t assume they will dive right in
All parents hope that their little one will dive in and make a mess of the cake. But that doesn’t always happen and that’s okay. Not every child wants to dive right in and make a mess no matter what tricks we try. It’s important to know that even if they don’t turn their cake into a gooey pile of crumbs, I am still able to catch fun images of them poking at it or daintily picking of bits of icing or decorations. Sometimes we may need to strategically place a little treat to help things along– puffs have been a big help getting a skeptical baby to get into the cake! It’s also a good idea to bring along a favourite toy and some snacks in case your little one needs some encouraging.

2. Come prepared for a mess!
Cake is the last thing we do in the session. A change of clothes for the birthday boy or girl, is a good idea. It can get VERY messy! Parents will likely become covered in cake and icing during the celebrating  too!  Bring plenty of wipes + a towel- and know you might get messy in the process!

3. Cake and icing choices matter
When picking out your own cake or making one to bring to a smash session, I suggest choosing a white cake over chocolate or red velvet. Also, bright colored icing photographs better than plain white or chocolate, with the exception of red.  Steer clear of red and black icing. I have also found that creamier icing and less dense cakes are better for smashing. Fondant and really stiff icing can make it harder for them to get messy.

“I am in awe of the photographs of my one-year-old daughter that you so beautifully captured. These are not only pictures, but ART! Thank you so much for your creativity and vision to suspend moments that my family and I will always look upon with joy and gratefulness!” Happy Mom

Newborn Sessions

All you need to know about your newborn photos at Eugenia Photography!

I have newborns visit the studio within the first two weeks of arrival. This makes sure that baby is sleepy, relaxed, and pose-able, so that we are able to get those cozy, sleepy newborn photos we all love! After the ten day mark, babies spend more time awake and are not comfortable in “womb-like” poses. If time has gotten away from you, I suggest setting something up for the three month mark.

It is important to book your date during your third trimester. We will set you up with a tentative date based on your due date but will make solid arrangements once baby arrives. If baby is early or late, even if just by two or three days, make sure to let me know so we can plan accordingly! Once your little one arrives, you can easily just shoot me an email to keep me updated on the tentative date! Please, do not wait until baby is born to set something up.

As far as pricing, a newborn session is $200, and includes a CD of edited portraits with print release. You can bring any outfits, blankets, or anything you’d like to personalize your session. I have lots of props, blankets, wraps, knitted items, headbands, hats, etc to use as well! If you’d like to include older siblings or family portraits please be advised that this isn’t included in the newborn session.

It is my goal to produce the finest work putting the safety of your newborn at the center of the shoot. For this reason any outside props will be used at my discretion and should be discussed before your session. Please feel free to discuss your ideas with me and I will do my best, within reason, to accommodate!

If you are expecting, please don’t wait to reach out and book! I look forward to working with you and your family : )

“I can’t say enough great things about Eugenia and her amazing talent! She was so patient and calm during our newborn session. My daughter was being fussy and Eugenia waited until I fed her, and she was so great with her. We couldn’t be happier with the outcome and quality of our pictures! I would highly recommend her!” -Happy New Mommy!
